Sidney Fox

  1. Tamara, Sweet Surrender, 1935. Or Romance Unlimited when Sidney was first selected  to co-star with the “County Cork Sicilian” tenor Frank Parker.  She was replaced by the Ukranian singer. Tamara (Drasin) – famous for performing Smoke Gets in Your Eyes in Broadway’s Roberta in 1933.
  2. Tilly Losch, The Good Earth, 1936.     Among the  Asian actresses seriously considered for Lotus were Fox,  Mamo Clark and  Lotus Lui –  in the first MGM film to credit Irving Thalberg, the tragically dead (at 36) legendary production genius.  Once presumed to be having affairs wth both Universal moguls, Carl Laemmle Sr and Jr, the tiny Fox (1.47m) committed suicide with sleeping pills.
