- Sidney James, Carry On Constable, 1959. The BBComic (his radio show was called, of course, Ray’s A Laugh) (and he did!), was the headmaster in the previous Carry On Teacher, despite being under contract to (but never used by) Associated British. The ABC suits made their fury known about him working for another combine. To avoid being refused a release in ABCinemas, the Carry On team swiftly dropped him from the series – opening the door to the series bulwark, Sid James, who carried on 19 times. Same film, different titles as producer Peter Rogers was the first to admit.
