  1. Cedric Hardwicke, The War of the Worlds,   1953.        CB first asked Alfred Hitchcock to direct, then George Pal – who produced Bryon Haskin’s  helming. To thank for giving him artistic automony, Pal asked CB to be the narrator.    He was tempted (he  loved the sound of his own voice) but nominated Sir Cedric Hardwicke.
