Chadwick Boseman

  1. Lee Thompson Young,  Rizzoli & Isles, TV, 2010-2014.     Back up for  the latest take on Cagney & Lacey, Barry Frost  was a computer wiz, scared of corpses and blood. Creator Janet Tamaro  wasn’t sure if he should be an actor or musician. Like Young, Boseman and Michael B Jordan (far too big in movies), Nate Parker, Robert Ri’chard, Khelo Thomas, Jaleel White or: rap/R&B star: Ginuwine, Donald Glover, Marques Houston, Romeo Miller, Ne-Yo, Usher Raymond or Columbus Short.  Finally, Young won the gig. He committed suicide, at 29, in 2013, following years of bipolar disorder and clinical depression. His family formed a foundation in his name to help battle the stigma associated with mental illness.

  2. Isiah Mustafa, It Chapter Two, 2018.  Veterans like Don Cheadle and Taye Diggs were listed, of course. But the adult Mike Hanlon was a  job for one of the new generation. Mustafa, from Shadowhunters, survived suchheavy opposition as Chadwick Boseman, Donald Glover, Michael B Jordan, Anthony Mackie and  Craig Robinson.  Idris Elba was also keen, after his Stephen King film, The Dark Tower, 2016. This was the 262nd of King’s staggering 313 screen credits … Chadwick Boseman died on August 28, 2020, after a four year secret battle with colon cancer – during which time of surgeries and chemotherapy, he played such American jcons as Jackie Robinson, James Brown, Supreme Court judge Thurgood Marshall and above all  . the Wakandan king T’Challa. Black Panther.

It was meant to be for Chadwick and me to be connected, for us to be family. But what many don’t know is our story began long before his historic turn as Black Panther. During the prem  when I received my honorary degree from Howard University, his alma mater, he was the student assigned to escort me that day. And here we were, years later as friends and colleagues, enjoying the most glorious night ever! We’d spent weeks prepping, working, sitting next to each other every morning in makeup chairs, preparing for the day together as mother and son. I am honored that we enjoyed that full circle experience. This young man’s dedication was awe-inspiring, his smile contagious, his talent unreal. So I pay tribute to a beautiful spirit, a consummate artist, a soulful brother…”thou aren’t not dead but flown afar…”. All you possessed, Chadwick, you freely gave. Rest now, sweet prince.- Angela Bassett (Black Panther’s mother).

Mr. Boseman leveled the playing field while fighting for his life… That’s heroism. I’ll remember the good times, the laughter, and the way he changed the game. – Robert Downey Jr.

Chadwick was someone who radiated power and peace. Who stood for so much more than himself. Who took the time to really see how you were doing and gave words of encouragement when you felt unsure. I’m honored to have the memories   I have. The conversations, the laughter. My heart is with you and your family. You will be missed and never forgotten. Rest in power and peace my friend.-  Brie Larson

Thank you Chadwick Boseman for all you gave us. We need it and will always cherish it. A talented andgiving artist and brother who will be sorely missed. RIP.– Samuel L Jackson

I’m absolutely devastated. This is beyond heartbreaking. Chadwick was special. A true original. He was a deeply committed and constantly curious artist. Few performers have such power and versatility. He had so much amazing work still left to create. I’m endlessly grateful for our friendship. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Rest in power, King.  – Chris Evans

Chad deeply valued his privacy, and I wasn’t privy to the details of his illness. After his family released their statement, I realized that he was living with his illness the entire time I knew him. Because he was a caretaker, a leader, and a man of faith, dignity and pride, he shielded his collaborators from his suffering. He lived a beautiful life. And he made great art. Day after day, year after year. That was who he was. He was an epic firework display. I will tell stories about being there for some of the brilliant sparks till the end of my days. What an incredible mark he’s left for us.I haven’t grieved a loss this acute before. I spent the last year preparing, imagining and writing words for him to say, that we weren’t destined to see. It leaves me broken…. It’s no secret to me now how he was able to skillfully portray some of our most notable [ancestors]. . I had no doubt that he would live on and continue to bless us with more. But it is with a heavy heart and a sense of deep gratitude to have ever been in his presence, that I have to reckon with the fact that Chad is an ancestor now. And I know that he will watch over us, until we meet again.- Black Pantherwriter-director Ryan Coogler.
