Colette Mann

  1. Kerry Armstrong, Prisoner (UK/US: Prisoner: Cell Block H, TV, Australia, 1979-1985.      “If prison is hell for a man, imagine what it’s like for a woman…” Mann was first considered  for Lynn Warner, one of the early leads in the jailbirds’ soap  before the arrival of Bea Smith… and  The Freak!
  2. Judy McBurney, Prisoner (UK/US: Prisoner: Cell Block H, TV, Australia, 1979-1985.       Mann was also seen for Marilyn ‘Pixie’ Mason  before becoming  the inept, easily led  tragi-comic Doreen Burns – of the Bea–Lizzie-Doreen jailbird triumvirate, more or less  running Melbourne’s high security Wentworth Detention Centre. Inspired by the UK 70’s Within These Walls, the huge down-under success was booked in 1979 for 16 episodes – finally folding after 692. Producer Reg Watson then created Neighbours… still  running after 7,000 episodes!  (Only Canada dared to Cormanise  the title:  Caged Women).
