Daniel Gélin

1. – Jean Gabin, Touchez pas au grisbi, France, 1953.   “I’m too young,” said Gelin, a mere 32, about the role of an old hood. “It’s for Gabin.” (49,   looking 56). Jacques Becker snorted: “Gabin? He’s finished!” Hah! This proved his post-war comeback and he then went on to star in   a further 48 films over 23 years.   One year earlier, Gélin fathered Maria Schneider, the future co-star   – in Last Tango In Paris   – of, ironically, Papa’s lover, Marlon    Brando.
