David Alan Graf

  1. Charles Miller, Racing With The Moon, 1983.     Cruising happily through TV guest shots (M*A*S*H, The A Team, Matt Houston), Graf suddenly hit the actors’ nightmare. Two offers at once. Richard Benjamin’s Racing With The Moon v something called Police Academy. “What trash!” he said. But knowing it would hit big, he signed on as the trigger-happy cadet Eugene Tackleberry. He made sergeant – and all seven movies. Like Carry On Cops, except each one was worse than the one before. Fat and breasts were automatically funny, complained the Washington Post’s Rita Kempley of the fifth. She blamed creator-producer Paul Maslansky, “clearly a man who can never be stopped, not even by a SWAT team of movie critics with blood in their eyes.”
