David Hyde Pierce

  1. Peter Gallagher, sex, lies and videotape, 1989.       Auditioned as John for   new   director Steven Soderbergh. Pierce’s fame was just around the next corner, winning four Emmys for   his   Dr Niles Crane in 263 episodes of Frasier on NBC, 1993-2004.
  2. Tim Robbins, Human Nature,  2001.       Steven Soderbergh calls again and   Dr Crane was set to become Dr Nathan   Bronfman – until Soderbergh split. To take an Out of Sight meeting with George Clooney… the beginning of a wonderful friendship.
  3. Philip Seymour Hoffman, Doubt, 2007.      John Cusack and Tom Hanks were also short-listed for Father Flynn, accused by Meryl Streep’s dragon of a nun of sexually abusing  an altar boy. As with his2005 Pulitzer Prize-winning  Broadway play, auteur John Patrick Shanley told Phil whether  or not the parish priest was guilty as charged. And no one else.
  4. Doug Jones, Hellboy II : The Golden Army, 2008.     In the first film, 2003, Abe Sapien was performed by Jones’ body and DHP’s voice – the suits reckoned his name hidden among the credits would help make the film a hit. Except he refusd to promo trail because he maintained that Abe was really all Jones. Therefore, DHP was not ready for any sequel and Jones did it all, the physical and the vocal. Idem for two other parts. The Chamberlain and The Angel of Death.
