Erwin Gdeschonneck

  1. Vlastimil Brodský, Jacob, der Lügner, (US: Jacob The Liar), East Germany-Czechoslovakia,  1974.    East German director Frank Beyer had a problem: who should be Jacob? His friend and excellent actor Brodský,  the bigger  star, Heinz Rühmann…  or Geschopnneck, who wanted the rôle while Beyer saw him better as Kowalski. The matter was solved by Erich Hoenecker, the Moscow puppet “running” East Germany: anyone but Ruhmann, because he was – haven forfend –  a West German.
