F J McCormick

  1. Stanley Holloway, Hamlet, 1947.  Alas, poor… Mac.   Dublin’s Abbey Theatre star was booked by Laurence Olivier for his legendary take on Shakespeare’s Danish prince.  However, McCormick died from a brain tumour at 56, and Holloway, better known for Ealing comedies, took over as The Gravedigger.   It would have been the Dubliner’s  third film that year (after Hungry Hill and the Odd Man Out classic) of the four he made… compared with an astonishing 500 stage plays!
