1. – Shani Wallais, Oliver!, 1967. After crazy Hollywood “thinking,” like Peter O’Toole and Elizabeth Taylor as Fagin and Nancy, director Lewis Gilbert (best known for Alfie/007) suggsted the original stage stars. The studio accepted Ron Moody (begrudingly) but preferred Wallis, a UK singer (slightly) better known in the US, to Brown. Gilbert tested them both. “Georgia was easily the best.” So Wallis got the part… This was not The Reason Gilbert never made the film. Just one of them.
