Glenn Anders1

  1. Clark Gable, Strange Interlude, 1931.     Irving Thalberg snapped up Eugene O’Neill’s 1928 Pulitzer Prize-winning play for Broadway’s Lynn Fontanne – but Anders was bypassed in favour of Fontanne’s equally renowned New York stage legend, Lunt. But they poo–pooed movies.   (Enter: Gable for the first time in his signature tash). Anders accepted 16 screen roles. His directors included Orson Welles and… DW Griffith!
