  1. Judith Allen, This Day And Age,  1933.   Although billed as “The FIRST Great Spectacle of Modern Times,”  this is the forgotten  Cecil B DeMille film. His only gangster talkie (close  to his 1929 demi-talkie, The Godless Girl).  has crimelord Charles Bickford taken down by the LA High School  student body. And this is she…  The future Mrs William (Hopalong Cassidy) Boyd beat Gloria Stuart to the  goody-two-shoes turning slut to distract a hood, who’s keen until finding she’s a virgin. “I like my olives green… but I don’t pick ’em myself.”

  2. Joan Bennett, Mississippi, 1934.     Last minute change of Lucy Rumford (as Gail Patrick’s sister) supporting the one and only pairing of Bing Crosby and… WC Fields! They worked very well. The film, not so much.
