Helen Twelvetrees

  1. Peggy Shannon, Fury of the Jungle, 1933.  Musical chairs at Columbia…   Cook and Helen Twelvetrees were The Couple – Lucky and Joan- when shooting began. Then, Cook was cooked, replaced by Victor Jory, despite the fact that he was already shooting My Woman. Then, Jory and Twelvetrees were let go – and became The Couple in My Woman (John and Connie). Then, she returned as to the Jungle until dropped again – in favour of Peggy Shannon. So then – but you’re ahead of me, right?  – Jory was no longer Lucky, as Cook returned to where he was when all this started.

  2. Dorothy Maguire, The Enchanted Cottage, 1944.     The play was on Broadway soon after WWI. A film was made in 1923. Then, RKO bought rights for a re-make with Twelvetrees… in 1929 !  It took this long for the harvest to be reaped. And even then, the New York Times critic Bosley Crowther put it down as “more of a horror film than a psychological romance.”
