James Murray

Phillips Holmes, Her Man, 1929.        Murray, Walter Abel, George Brent, Russell Gleason (whose father, James, played Steve), Russell Hardie and Dean Jagger tested for Dan in in Tay Garnett’s melo stemming from the Frankie and Johnnie song. Murray started in King Vidor’s silent classsic, The Crowd, in 1927 – and an alcoholic bum, living on the streets and dying in the Hudson river when he was but 35.
