James Philbrook

  1. Karl Malden, Dead Ringer, 1963.       Relishing the lead rôles (twins, one good, one bad), Bette Davis tried to get Philbrook from The Loretta Young Show, as one of her fellas! Davis passed on a Sinatra Clan cameo in 4 For Texas to make the horror film because she’d been here before – twinning it in A Stolen Life, 1945. Plus her Now, Voyager two-cigarettes-lighting co-star Paul Henreid was helming. He replaced Robert Aldrich who had made Whatever Happened To Baby Jane? with Davis the year before. And needed a respite before their next battle: Hush… Hush, Sweet Charlotte, 1964
