  1. Robert Pattinson, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, 2008.    Having tested and lost the main role of Edward Cullen in the openingfilm of the Twilight vampire franchise, 2007, the young Londoner was invited to become Volturi member Caius in the first sequel. He then set out for another franchise.
  2. Frank Dillane, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, 2009.  Lost his audition as  teenageTom Marvolo Riddle (the future Lord Voldemort) for the sixth of the eight Potters . So did Andrew Clarke (not the nearly 007 of 1987), Christopher Coulson and two triple-namers: James Lee Hunt and Thomas Longley. Bower, however, won another teen,  Gellert Grindelwald,  in the grand finale,  Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, 2010.
  3. Nicholas Hoult, Jack The Giant Killer, 2011.     A broken ankle during a stunt after stealing the Elder Wand in his Harry Potter experience made itimpossible to strut his action stuff for director Bryan Singer’s new take on an old tale.  Also losing out: Aneurin Barnard, Aaron Johnson, Alex Pettyfer. 
  4. Rob Ostlere, Game of Thrones, TV, 2011.   Change of Waymar Royce in the early days of HBO’s colossus based on George R R Martin’s fantasy novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire, following the bloodthirsty family  battles for the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms. Shakespeare without the words.
  5. Aaron Tveit, Les Misérables, 2012.   Director Tom Hooper wanted Bower or Eddie Redmayne to play Enjolras. They did not.  
  6. Evan Peters, X-Men: Days of Future Past, 2013.    It came down to three and Director Bryan Singer had to decide between Missouri’s Peters, JCB from ABC’s Invasion and Scream 4’s Nico Tortorella for the supersonic speedy Peter Maximoff/Quicksilver – filmed in a special format of 3,600 frames per second.  Aaron Taylor-Johnson was the the Avengers version of  Quicksilver in Age of Ultron, 2014., The two actors were co-stars  in Kick-Ass, 2009, directed by Matthew Vaugghn, who also made the X-Men: First Class, in 2010.
  7. Bryan Cranston, Kung Fu Panda 3, 2015. A new voice for Po’s biological father. Fred Tatasciore in Panda 2 was succeeded by Mr Breaking Bad and not Bower as first planned.
