Janet Chapman

  1. Sybil Jason, Comet Over Broadway, 1938.  Change of the  teenage daughter that Kay Francis handed over to a  woman friend named Tim (!) to leave her free to become a Broadway star. Sybil, the South African-born superkid – playing piano at two, impersonating Maurice Chevalier at five – was Warner’s answer to Fox superstar Shirley Temple. The public preferred Shirley  and  Sybil ended up supporting her in the last two of her 17 movies… and they became friends for life.  Bette Davis refused the concoction as “weak tea!”
