Janet Waldo

  1. Kathryn Beaumont, Alice in Wonderland, 1950. For his feature-length toon of Lewis Carroll’s heroine, Walt Disney tested many voices from Ginger Rogers and radio’s Janet Waldo  to Lisa Davis and Luana Patten before signing a more suitable 12-year-old from London…  Davis went on to play 100 by his dreathj.  Lewis Carrioll: Alice in Wonderland or What’s a Nice Kid Like You Doing in a Place Like This?
  2. Tiffany, Jetsons: The Movie, 1989.     In a vain effort to attract a younger audience (for a toon?!), Tiffany Renee Darwisch, ex-pop poppet of Cherokee-Irish-Lebanese-Syrian descent, was booked to voice Judy Jetson instead of Waldo, a highly respected voice artist, who had played Judy for 25 years! (And still sounded like a breathy teen). Casting director Andrea Romano was furious and took hername off the credits, saying the decision was “such a mistake on so many levels.” IMdB stated that she returned to Judy (somewhat graciously) in subsequent Jetsons productions. Except… there were no subsequent productions.
