Jodie Comer

  1. Jurnee Smollet-Bell, Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), 2019.     Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn has quit Suicide Squad to build  her own all-gals gang. And for Black Canary/Dinah Lance, it a battle royale between… Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer;  Vanessa Kirby, Princess Margaret in The Crown, 2016-2017;  the 2007-2012 Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively; Belle‘s  Mbatha-Raw; or Hidden Figures’ Janelle Monae v the winning star from  Underground star, JSB. Unlike Marvel, when a DCharacter is called Black Something (Black Mask, Black Canary), he or she isn’t.
  2. Emma Mackey, Death on the Nile, 2019.  Jodie was part  of Sir Kenneth Bfanagh’s second star-packed Hercule Poirot  film – but was tied to her  Villanelle in Killing Eve, TV, 2018-2022. Emma became a star via the Netflix series, Sex Education, leading to her (perfect) French debut in Eiffe – both seen long before Nile finally opened in 2022, after delays caused by  Disney buying Fox and, of course, the Covid 19 pandemic.
  3. Vanessa Kirby, Napoleon, 2022.  Not this film, Josephine…!  Ridley Scott had wanted his Last Duel star to play the empress Josephine opposite  Joaquin Phoenix’s Boney. However as schedules became crossed she  was no longer  an option  and was substituted by Kirby –  the young Princess Margaret in The Crown.  (Ben Miles, her “royal” co-star  as Peter Townsend, was chosen for Coulancourt).
