Claire Blom, The Buccaneer, 1958.        When still intending to direct the re-make of his 1937 production, CB De Mille announced in June 1956 his signing of the Chinesee actress for her Hollywood debut. Known as The Evergreen Tree of Chinese cinema, Li Hua Li made more than 120 films between 1940 and her 1973 retirement (to, ironically, the US). CB fell ill, asked his son-in-law Anthony Quinn to direct, hated his work, ordered re-shoots and was dead a month after the premiere The original plan had been a musical.
