Margaret Johnston

  1. Phyllis Calvert, Indiscreet, 1957.   “How dare he make love to me when he’s not a married man!” This is Ingrid Bergman on Cary Grant’s NATO diplomat as the 1946 Notorious couple re-united for more whimsical fare. Even being wed to top UK agent Al Parker could not save Johnston… The Australian actress, busy in British films, simply messed with the wrong dude – director (and co-producer) Stanley Donen.   She walked out.  Cary and Ingrid started all over with Calvert as her sister.   What a difference. A great favourite of the UK 40s/50s productions., Calver was  Ssuch a consummate professional, she completed her role, even though her husband had died the day she signed her contract.
