Megan Fox

  1. Rachel Nichols, The Amityville Horror, 2005.      Even at 19, she looked too young to be  the remake’s Lisa.
  2. Emma Stone, Zombieland, 2008.   The heroes were  called Columbus and Tallhassee but Fox passed on being  Wichita. Stone had first been cast as the less geographic 406 in the funny road movie full of zombies likened by Chicago critic  Roger Ebert to “the Energizer Bunnies of corpses, existing primarily to be splattered.”
  3. Kate Mara, Ironclad, 2010.      Fox fell out and Mara into director Jonathan English’s Magna Carta project.
  4. Rose Huntington-Whitely, Transformers: Dark of the Month, 2010.   The Victoria’s Secret model replaced – not the Mikaela role (which became Carly in the threequel) but the actress…   after her hassles with the franchise’s director Michael Bay.  Fox compared him to Hitler and producer Steven Spielberg told him to fire her. Although her publicisi insisted: “It was her decision not to return.” Three  “loyal” members of Bay’s franchise crew posted their feelings on his website: “We’ve had the tedious experience of working with the dumb-as-a-rock Megan Fox on both Transformers movies. We’ve spent a total of 12 months on set making these two movies. Megan really is a thankless, classless, graceless, and shall we say unfriendly bitch. It’s sad how fame can twist people, and even sadder that young girls look up to her.”  PS: Bay, as producer, hired her back for  his next huge hit, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, 2013.
  5. Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, 2010. The fourth one…   Penelope Cruzwas the sole choice for Angelica. (Her husband, Javier Bardem, was in #5: Dead Men Tell No Tales, 2015), But two girls were in contention for Syrena. The foxy Megan and, after director Rob Marshall saw in a French magazine, Astrid. .She had the  beauty. All she had to do was  to improve her English, swimming and breath-control.  Easy when you try…
  6. Jenna Dewan, 10 Years, 2010.  IMDb pitch: High school reunion  friends realise they still haven’t quite grown up…They included Channing Tatum, Justin Long, Max Minghella.. but not Megan. But then  Jenna was wed to Tatum at the time.
  7. Lindsay Lohan, Liz and Dick, TV, 2012.    Megan was  a good, early  choice for enacting Elizabeth Taylor’s  turbulent love life with her (twice) husband, Richard Burton.  So was Olivia Wilde.  The Lifetime production went a cheaper route with the media’s favourite headline – “more memorable in the tabloids than she ever was as an actress,” said Tim Goodman in  Hollywood Reporter. “Woeful as Taylor from start to finish. But, whatever you do, don’t miss Liz & Dick. It’s an instant classic of unintentional hilarity.”  (Natalie Portman had been named for Liz in a never made Martin Scorsese version of the book, Furious Love).
  8. Scarlett Johansson, Under The Skin, 2012.    Many of the same faces from  the late 2010 casting season – Megan, Abbie Cornish, , Jessica Biel, Gemma Arterton, Eva Green, January Jones, Blake Lively, Olivia Wilde – were up for the  alien hanging around Glasgow… originally the wife of an alien Brad Pitt, but he couldn’t wait for director Jonathan Glazer to get started on his  “chilling masterpice” (The Guardian).
  9. Chloë Grace Moretz, Carrie, 2012.   Author Stephen King voted LL.  “She .looks a .lot like Sissy.” Maybe, but  she was 26 and director Kimberly Peirce wanted CGM – at 15, the first real  teenager to play Ms Telekinetic, winning over Hailee Steinfeld, 15, and Dakota Fanning, 19.  Therefore, no chance for Shailene Woodley, 20., Lily Collins, 22, Emily Browning, 23, Haley Bennett, 24, Bella Heathcote, 25;, and Megan Fox, 26.   In the 1976 original and 2002 follow-up, Sissy Spacek and Angela  Bettis  were 26 and 28.  The first Carrie in 1976 marked Stephen  King’s first screen  credit – this was  the 168th  of his staggering 312 credits.
  10. Gal Gadot, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, 2015.
  11. Clara Delevingne, Suicide Squad,  2015. After 19 possible Deadshots and 14 Harley Quinns, director David Ayer searched through eleven young beauties for June Moone, aka Enchantress (the DC villain, not Marvel’s rival to Thor). The contenders were  Fox, Troian Bellisario (tied to Pretty Little Liars) Emilia Clarke (nothing without her Game of Thrones’dragons), Alexandra Daddario, Brie Larson, Ellen Page, Krysten Ritter, Saoirse Ronan, Emma Stone, Alicia Vikander, Shailene Woodley. And told the winning Delevingne to prepare for the role by stripping naked in the woods and walk in mud, preferably during a full moon.  Takes all sorts. Takes all sorts. Film still flopped!
  12. Alicia Vikander, Tomb Raider, 2017.    Lara Croft is the girls’ James Bond.  Many tried to succeed Angelina Jolie  from her 2000 version – she won it from  20 candidates.  Two dozen lost to the Swedish Vikander, on a roll with her 2016 Danish Girl Oscar and Ex Machinarobot…The Franchise Brigade was represented by two from the Percy Jackson flicks (Alexandra Daddario, Rosario Dawson), two Terminators (Emilia Clarke, Summer Glau), two Underworlders (Kate Beckinsale, Rhona Mitra) and three Twilighters (Ashley Greene, Nikki Reed and Kristen Stewart who simply refused). Plus 007’s Gemma Arterton, Harry Potter’s Emma Watson, Marvel’s Wanda Maximioff (Elizabeth Olsen), Star Wars’Daisy Ridley, Transformers’ Megan Fox, TRON’s Olivia Wilde, X- Men’s Jennifer Lawrence,  Other also-rans were: Jessica Biel (as perfect as Dawson), Emily Blunt, Emily Browning, Cara Delevingne (Vikander’s co-star in Tulip Fever,2017), Nina Dobrev, Anne Hathaway, Sienna Miller (too mild, surely), Saoirse Ronan and Moon’s Kaya Scodelario.
