Michael Dyne

  1. Hurd Hatfield, The Picture of Dorian Gray, 1944.     All the unknown pretty boys like  Dyne, Robert Alton Jr, Kenneth Donner and John Good had Gray tests. Dyne suggested his fellow Londoner, Angela Lansbury, for Sybil Vane.  On the same day in  1943, she met George Cukor forGaslight 1943, and  Gray’s Albert Lewin – and won both roles, her first in Hollywood. So she rewarded him with parts in all her films?  Did she hell!  She had 104 screen roles compared to his 23, before he turned playwright, scoring one Tony nomination The Right Honourable Gentleman in 1966.  And by chance, I am writing this a few days after Lansbury won her first Olivier Award in London as Best Supporting Actress of 2014… at age 89.
