Nella Walker

  1. Doris Lloyd, Secrets, 1932.    Mary Pickford’s last hurrah had little to hurrah about. As producer and, of course, star, she wanted the nine-year younger Gary Cooper as her lover. Instead, she had MacKenna for  the much troubled  re-hash of Norma Talmadge’s silent hit, Forever Yours,1923.  Mary fired director Marshall Neilan for being drunk on-set and after getting through $4.5m in today’s currency, she shuttered everything ubntil getting Frank Borzage to complete the shoot  with a much changed cast.  Such as replacing Walker wih Lloyd as Aunt Mary – or indeed, Aunt Sarah, in the end. Only room for one Mary on a Pickford set!
