Neville Brand

  1. Anthony Zerbe, Rooster Cogburn, 1974.  Brand was up for the bandit called Breed in the sequel to John Wayne’s Oscar-winning role in True Grit – the one-eyed US Marshal Cogburn.  The second movie was scripted by Martin Julien – a worthless pseudonym as all Hollywood knew the writer was the then actress-wife of producer Hal B Walls – Martha Hyer.  “Neville Brand was a good actor,” reported  Herman J Mankiewicz’s son, Don.  ”But what he’s famous for is that he was blacklisted at Universal. He was a drunk and he pissed on a tour bus filled with tourists. He didn’t work at Universal after that.”.
