Niels Astreup

1. – Udo Kier, Medea,  Denmark, 1988.   The French actor suddenly pulled out of Lars von Trier’s second feature. And so Kier continued his series of films (and TV series) for the Danish auteur. They had met – as competing directors at a Mannheim festival. “And, of course, I knew him from his work with  Fassbinder.”  Kier lied about being able to ride horses, yet survived numerous takes of his equestrian debut: riding  into a house, grabbing a  woman and riding  out with her sharing his saddle. “He was incredibly courageous.”
