Peg Entwistle

  1. Katharine Hepburn, A Bill of Divorcement, 1931.  While Brots Peg Entwistle  and Jill Esmond (Laurence Olivier’s first wife) plus  Anita Louise simply passed on the role  of Sidney, it was Irene  Dunne’s usual $15,000 pay-cheque that bounced her from what  became Katharine Hepburn’s screen debut.  Variety hit the spot when noting “a vital something that sets her apart from the picture galaxy.”  Peg, from Wales, committed suicide that year at 24, by jumping  from the 50ft high H of the Hollywoodland sign.
