Sal Mineo

1. –  Robert Evans, The Fiend Who Walked The West,  1958.  First, Elvis, then Steve McQueen refused the stupid Western re-hash of Kiss of Death (Richard Widmark’s 1947 breakthrough).  Old-time director Gordon Douglas then tested five hopefuls: Ray Danton, Evans, Mineo, Anthony Perkins and, surprisingly,  Eli Wallach.

2. – Timothy Bottoms, The Last Picture Show, 1971. He had a copy of Larry McMurtry’s book and always intended to make the movie.  Instead, it became Peter Bogdanovich’s second film. (Bottoms is renowned for pissing on Dino De Laurentiis’ shoes during Hurricane, 1979).
