Thomas McDonnell

  1. Jake Abel, The Host, 2012 .        Change of O’Shea – as the New Yorker lost out on Andrew Niccol’s film of Twilight author Stephenie Meyer’s sf book. Dane DeHaan, Augustus Prew and Ian Somerhalder also auditioned for Ian.
  2. Miles Teller, The Spectacular Now, 2012.     All set as McDonnell’s second movie when, quite simply, it wasn’t.  He missed what #1 US critic, Roger Ebert, said in one of his, alas, final reviews, was  “a lovely film about two high school seniors who look, speak and feel like real 18-year-old middle-American human beings. Do you have any idea how rare that is.”
