  1. James Warwick, Doctor Who #121: Earthshock, 1982. In Doc5 Peter Davison’s Cybermen encounter, circa 2526, Scott was offered to Pigott-Smith Colin Baker (Doc6 during 1984-1986), Nicholas Ball, Andrew Burt, Lewis Collins, Peter Firth,  Del Henney, Martin Jarvis, Patrick Ryecart, Patrick Stewart, David Warner, Simon Williams. Plus Gareth Hunt (aka Mike Gambit) from TV’s 1976-1977 New Avengers. And the more successful 1977-1983 Professionals: Lewis Collins and Martin Shaw, aka Bodie and Doyle. Pigott-Smith had made his TV  debut as Captain Harker in  two Doc3 Jon Pertwee chapters of #57: The Claws of Axos, 1971, earning the princely sum of..  £60 per week… and got a bit more as Marco in #86: The Masque of Mandagora, 1976, with Doc4 Tom Baker.

Pigott-Smith, Henney, Nicholas Ball, Michael Byrne, Tom Chadbon, Peter Firth, Patrick Ryecart, Patrick Stewart, David Warner… most of the eleven actors up for Colonel Archer in the Doc5 Peter Davison adventure were from the astonishing army of 203 candidates for just 18 roles in that year’s Lifeforce movie mess.  The difference being Who was science fiction and  Lifeforc was science fart.
  8. Simon Williams, Doctor Who #148: Rememberance of the Daleks, 1988. Despite the importance of the show – the 25th anniversary season opener – eleven actorss passed on Group Captain Gilmore. Pigott-Smith, Tom Adams, Nicholas Ball, Tom Chadbon, Michael Cochrane, Lewis Collins,  Del Henney, Ian Ogilvy,  Neil Stacy, Simon Ward and James Warwick. Enter: Williams, aka James Bellamy in Upstairs, Downstairs, the Downton Abbey of its day – TV, 1971-1975. TPS’s  LA agent knew better than  to pass along the various series offers that arrived.  He could not face the thought of playing the same role  for five years. “I don’t know how Patrick Stewart managed it. I would go mad within a year.”
