Valerie Hobson

1. – Jane Wyatt, Great Expectations, 1934. Hollywood was correct in signing Valerie as the young Estella – stupid to drop her into a tiny role, later cut from the film.  She  finally  proved  the definitive  Estella for David  Lean,  1946.

2. – Deborah Kerr, Quo Vadis, 1951.  When Gregory Peck had to leave, his leading lady, Elizabeth Taylor, also quit. A new hunt  began for a new Lygia… Three years later, Valerie retired on marrying John Profumo, the British politician later destroyed by the 1963 Christine Keeler affair.
