Werner Klemperer

  1. John Banner, Hogan’s Heroes, TV, 1965-1971.  The actor son of famous orchestral conductor Otto Klemperer, auditioned for Master Sergeant Schulz in a comedy riff on  Billy Wilder’s Stalag 17 – while Banner tested for the  Stalag 13 prison’s Commandant Klink.  CBS liked them – but in each other’s roles!  Both actors were Jewish and served in the US Army Air Force during WWII.   They also co-starred in Safe Conduct, 1956, the 21st story among the many in Alfred Hitchcock Presents and Operation Eichmann in 1960.
