Angela Lanza, The Perez Family, 1995. “At her audition, I wanted to cast Angela on the spot for her first film,” says Indian film-maker Mira Nair. “But the studio wanted a famous Latin singer to cash in on. So, I went through the motions, wheeling and dealing Gloria Estefan (and Gloria Trevi, Celia Noel, etc), a host of talented singers but stuck out for Angela – the definitive Flavia. Her effervescence!”
