Henry Rollins

  1. John McGinley, On Deadly Ground,1993.    Steven Seagal only agreed to the lousy movie if he could direct it. That was an obvious insult for the likes of Anthony Hopkins and Alan Rickman. even Rollins  But Caine… He must have had another house to buy… Even Rollins passed MacGruder to McGinley.
  2. John Diehl, Nixon, 1995.      First on writer-director Oliver Stone’s wish list as tough Watergate plumber   C Gordon Liddy.
  3. Michael Rispoli, Death To Schmoochy, 2002.     The singer auditioned and shouted at director Michael Bay   and producer Jerry Bruckheimer  after they kept him waiting while they lunched. He didn’t get the part, but his pissed-off act was exactly what they wanted for Bad Boys II.
  4. Matthew Fox, Speed Racer, 2007.    Directors kept changing… Mexico’s Alfonso Cuarón, the UK’s Julien Temple, Gus Van Sant. Finally, the Wachowski siblings. So did the choices for Racer X from the Japanese anime series. Cage (in the early 90s), Keanu Reeves, Henry Rollins in 1994 and – ten years on – Vince Vaughn was going to produce and star. They were all lucky. Film flopped.
