  1. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, The Devil and The Deep Blue Sea, 2012.    Sudeikis and Zach Braff were up for Henry, untilMorgan got the gig.
  2. Gus Van Sant,The Canyons, 2012.     It was, as they say, a small but pivotal role – a shrink.  Auteur Paul Schrader called Jason, Jeff Goldbum and Willem Dafoe.  No go. “Any ideas?” he asked Lindsay Lohan, his star (and doubtless the reason those guys passed). “How about Jared?”“ Jared Harris?” asked Schrader .“No, Jared Leto.”   Schrader phoned a fellow auteur.  
  3.  Timothy Olyphant, This Is Where I Leave You, 2013.     When the comedy was due to be helmed by Adam Shankman.  His s only star surviving to the actual movie was Jason Bateman… discovering if  there’s anything worse than your father dying, it’s going home for the funeral  – a whole week with  an over-sharing mother, siblings, spouses, exes and other assorted wannabes.
  4. Scott Adsit, Big Hero 6, 2014.  “We didn’t set out to be superheroes. But sometimes life doesn’t go the way you planned.”  eJason Bateman, Josh Gad, Dennis Leary, John Leguizamo, Danny McBride, Ray Romano and Jason Sudeikis were seen (and heard!) for voicing Baymaxin Disney’s first Marvel subject (after The Big Buy-Out but before Kevin Feige created the Marvelverse), and thereby winning the best animation Oscar. Sudeikis lost out but   then  suddenly in mid-Coviid  Pandemic, 2020, he became a TV Emmy award-winning superstar as Ted Lasso,   an American  football coach (of American football) training a UK soccer squad when he doesn’t know soccer from squat.
