Sonny Bono

  1. Elvis Presley, Speedway, 1968.  With Colonel Tom Parker forever refusing any films with balls and substance (“just songs and girls”),  Elvis was even pushed into a Sonny & Cher cast-off.
  2. Warren Beatty, Dick Tracy, 1989.   Before Beatty was Dick and the director (he owned the rights to his boyhood idol!), Bono  and the missus, Cher, had been set  for a 70s’ musical version that never took off.   Cher was to be Tess Trueheart, of course.  Next came Ryan O’Neal in the early 80s.
